Detective Sergeant Johnson has been on the force 20 years, and he’s seen too much. When another young girl is brutally attacked on her way home from school, a suspect is picked up and brought in for questioning. Against orders, Johnson decides to interrogate Baxter alone, and this time he wants answers…
BAFTA-winning writer John Hopkins’ rarely performed thriller is a dark and gripping tale of the moral disintegration of a failed police officer. It was our first full length production and enjoyed a successful three week run at Islington’s Old Red Lion Theatre in the winter of 2010, marking the 40th anniversary of the play’s publication. The issues highlighted in the play – police corruption, domestic violence and the abduction of children – are as relevant now as they were in 1969. Hopkins later wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation, The Offence, starring Sean Connery.
