PLAY
Legacy is a celebration of community, an analysis of class and part of an artistic and social groundswell to end the so-called housing crisis. The play examines the impact of the London 2012 Olympics on estate residents and their health.
Legacy is a naturalistic play, with a fantastical counter reality, examining the impact of the Olympic legacy and corporate investment on estate residents. Over 50,000 families have been shipped out of London in the past 3 years – a result of welfare cuts and soaring private rents.
The main inspiration is the incredible Mary Finch who, from 2010, lived in uncertainty when plans to demolish part or all of the Carpenters Estate, her home for 40 years, were proposed. She witnessed the gradual decanting of her neighbours and was vociferous in the campaign to repopulate the estate. Mary sadly passed away on 3rd January 2020. The fight goes on.
